Like Macbeth, the puppets of today, pretend to slay the kings of the past, only to discover that all rebellions are programmed to fail, and they were never in control of the movement from the beginning. Soon the rebel becomes the establishment, hubris descends to self pity, and the dull ache caused by the never ending thrashing against the pulling of our strings grinds us to dust for the next generation to brush aside, and begin again.
Speaking as an observer of this phenomenon, I cannot help but note that as generations of music now recycle themselves at an alarming rate, it is a grave responsibility to gaze at this sanitized, commercialized, productized, and lobotomized world of rock and roll through the kaleidoscope of cynicism, and conclude that being an observer is not enough.
Henry Ford would have been proud to see the wide adoption of his theory of mass production, as the music industry perpetually rips itself off such that there are no more bands, just an implosion of well trained mutant cardboard cutouts, master of the art of exploiting their frustration over never having experienced anything real, and wrapping it up in an approved script of fat free angst, just in time for the next seasonal buying cycle.
Not quite like lambs to the slaughter, so we make our rebel stand. The Parkdale Hookers is like economics. A little bit of art, and little bit of science, perhaps even more like theoretical physics. However, occasionally theoretical physics delivers something beyond just theory as imagination and discipline fall in stride. Something real, like E=MC². Much like nuclear fusion, or E=MC², the Parkdale Hookers is three individuals, which when combined produce an energy which radiates and shines brightly. Rather than photons being the output, the Parkdale Hookers produce sound waves, that are real, with thoughts, and voices, and instruments that are real, not theory.
